I had a revelation yesterday. People either have guilt about our country or believe our past is just. I don't think those who have guilt about our country would consciously admit it, as the guilt stems from a very altered perception of history. They feel bad about the things that our leaders and people have done over the last 250 years to evolve and change into the nation around us.
Those who have been indoctrinated by the liberal left find shame in where we have been. Trying to establish firm boundaries is "racism" not labor protection, trying to produce pride in our nation is "propaganda". The revisionist historians want us to be ashamed that Christopher Columbus ignored the "learned" minds of his time to search west for new paths. They want us to forget the reasons why we did the things we did, simply because through the lens of today they seem distasteful.
In thinking about this guilt and fear that motivates our current political schism I find it divides up pretty cleanly along party lines. Those who feel guilty about our country vote for BHO and company. Those who are not ashamed of the past of our country fall into a couple of categories.
1) they are blindly nationalistic and terrified of becoming a socialist haven. ( Trump camp)
2) they are looking for a sane stop gap for the future (Cruz and Carson).
3) Balancing their guilt at being Americans with a desire to slow down the whole thing falling apart. (The rest of the GOP candidates).
Not a good way to pick a leader.
